HSIP: Church Rd. / Spruce Ave. Intersection Flashing Beacon

State/Federal Project No: CFHWY00883/0001727
Project Overview

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are proposing to construct a flashing beacon at the intersection of Church Road and Spruce Avenue in Wasilla.

Project Background

This intersection has experienced a pattern of right angle and run-off-road crashes. These crashes are primarily a result of vehicles failing to stop on the Spruce Avenue approach. Crash patterns suggest that drivers are failing to observe the existing signage or control their speeds when approaching this T intersection.

This project will install an overhead flashing beacon to increase drivers' awareness of the intersection and the stop condition on Spruce Avenue.

What's Happening Now

The Final design of this project is expected to be completed this winter (2023/2024).

Project Purpose and Need

The purpose of the project is to reduce the number of angle crashes at the intersection of Church Road and Spruce Avenue.

Schedule

Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024 but is dependent on the availability of funding.
