(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) announced that the Seward Highway at Trail River will be CLOSED nightly between 10:00pm and 6:00am from Monday, May 7 through Thursday, May 10, and from Sunday, May 13 through Thursday, May 17.   This is the first of several closures and traffic restrictions expected as a result of DOT&PF’s bridge replacement project along the highway north of Seward, Alaska. 

DOT&PF further advises that daytime work will require the restriction of the highway to a single lane at Trail River.  Drivers should expect daily single lane traffic, short delays and flagging operations at the Trail River Bridge, between 7:00am and 8:00pm Monday through Saturday, until further notice.

DOT&PF and its contractor, Hamilton Construction Company, are working to improve travel on the Seward Highway, from Trail River to Ptarmigan Creek. Work will include replacement of the Trail River, Falls Creek, and Ptarmigan Creek bridges, widening of the Seward Highway from milepost 22.4 to 25.4 and installation of a railroad crossing at Crown Point.

DOT&PF asks that drivers be alert to new traffic patterns and heavy equipment and construction workers on the roadway, bridge and shoulder.  Please use extreme caution when approaching and traveling through the work zone.
