Daniel V. Smith Appointed MSCVE Director

(ANCHORAGE, ALASKA) – Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Commissioner Marc Luiken announced the appointment of Daniel V. Smith to serve as acting director of the Division of Measurement Standards and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (MSCVE), replacing retiring director Dan Breeden, a thirty year employee who had served in that capacity for the past four years.

Smith, a lifelong Alaskan, has been an Enforcement Officer/Inspector at MSCVE for eight years, serving in a variety of capacities including overseeing inspectors statewide, working with the public, device owners and the trucking industry.

MSCVE works to ensure accurate trade measurements such as scales and pumps and enforces state and federal commercial vehicle regulations.

“This division serves consumers and businesses every day,” said Luiken.  “It’s an important link in the chain of services the state of Alaska provides to assure fair and equitable commercial transactions throughout the state as well as insuring safety in our trucking industry.  We are pleased to have someone with Daniel’s background and ability to step forward to take on this important role.”

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) oversees 254 airports, 11 ferries serving 34 communities, 5,700 miles of highway and 660 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of DOT&PF is to “Get Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
