Auke Bay Corridor Project Open House Thursday, April 12, 2012

What: The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is hosting an open house for the Glacier Highway Improvement Projects: Fritz Cove to Seaview Avenue and Back Loop Road Intersection Safety Improvements.

When: 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012

Where: UAS Recreation Center, Room 116, 12300 Mendenhall Loop Road, Juneau, Alaska

Who: DOT&PF and the USKH consultant team will present both projects and be available for discussion to answer project questions.

Why: The DOT&PF has two projects planned to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety along the Glacier Highway in the Auke Bay area. The proposed improvements include:

  • Adding a roundabout to the intersection of Glacier Highway and Back Loop Road
  • Intersection improvements at Glacier Highway, Fritz Cove Road, and UAS south entrance
  • Sidewalks along both sides of the Glacier Highway from Fritz Cove Road to Seaview Avenue and on both sides of Back Loop Road from Glacier Highway to the North UAS Access intersection
  • Improvements to the Auke Bay Lab curve including a left turn lane at the Lab entrance
  • Improving the lighting and adding two 12-foot driving lanes and 8-foot shoulders to both sections of road

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) oversees 254 airports, 11 ferries serving 33 communities, 5,700 miles of highway and 660 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of ADOT&PF is to “Get Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
